About Seed  

Adult-use cannabis is now legal in almost half of the 50 states.  Massachusetts is leading the charge on the East coast and Seed is pleased to be one of the first locally permitted establishments in the City of Boston. 

 

In early 2021, Seed opened its first high-end retail cannabis establishment alongside the Core Social Justice Cannabis Museum in Jamaica Plain. Seed not only offers guests a wide range of products but also supports the communities in which it operates and fosters conversations around the history, science, and culture of cannabis.

Seed is seeking an experienced, passionate and customer-focused District Retail Manager to oversee retail operations and management at our Jamaica Plain location and soon-to-open Somerville location. With a strong focus on customer service, staff training, and operational efficiency, the District Retail Manager will lead a team of retail managers to deliver a unique, high-quality customer experience under the direct guidance of the COO. This role is vital in promoting a positive company culture, ensuring compliance, and driving business success.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

 

Operational Leadership: 

  • Manage day-to-day retail operations at Jamaica Plain and Somerville locations, focusing on delivering exceptional customer experiences, ensuring operational efficiency, and promoting sales. 
  • Oversee and support retail managers in implementing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensuring consistent adherence across locations 
  • Develop and update SOPs to reflect regulatory changes, operational enhancements, or improved efficiency. 
  • Oversee and assist with cash handing practices and monthly retail location financial resets. 

 

Staff Training and Development: 

 

  • Design and deliver comprehensive training programs, including Responsible Vendor Training and cannabis knowledge workshops, to ensure staff expertise and confidence in customer interactions. 
  • Conduct regular check-ins with retail managers to verify that staff follows procedures and provides accurate, digestible information about cannabis products to customers. 
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to retail managers to develop leadership skills and foster professional growth. 

 

Customer Service Excellence: 

  • Ensure staff provides outstanding customer service, encouraging customer loyalty, repeat visits, and positive reviews. 
  • Support retail managers in addressing escalated customer concerns and implementing feedback to enhance the customer experience. 

 

Compliance and Security: 

  • Maintain full compliance with all local and state regulations, proactively educating staff and management about regulatory updates. 
  • Ensure locations remain safe, secure, and sanitary, and that all equipment is functional; coordinate with appropriate parties to address maintenance needs. 

 

Performance Monitoring and Reporting: 

  • Analyze sales data, monitor KPIs, and prepare regular reports for the executive team with insights and recommendations to improve sales and operations. 
  • Support retail managers in creating and maintaining schedules based on customer traffic patterns and business needs. 
  • Conduct performance reviews of retail managers 
  • Oversee and support retail managers throughout the staff evaluation process. 

 

Community and Brand Engagement: 

  • Provide feedback from the sales floor to the executive and marketing teams to help develop targeted campaigns, improve the customer experience and increase sales. 
  • Help ensure in-store and online branding remains current and visually appealing, assisting the marketing team when updating displays and monitors. 
  • Organize and participate in community and company events to foster positive relationships and brand awareness. 

 

 

Qualifications:  

  • 3+ years of cannabis retail management experience (multi-location management preferred)
  • Proven track record of driving sales, inspiring teams and achieving operational goals.
  • Strong ability to design and implement training programs for diverse teams. 
  • Skilled in analyzing sales reports, identifying trends and providing data-driven insight. 
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and customers. 
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Positive and proactive
  • Local applicants preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required. 
  • Flexible availability, including evening, weekends and holidays. 
  • Reliable, professional, and ethical demeanor.

 

 

 

Physical requirements:  

  • Must be able to lift at least 50lbs be able to stand for long periods of time 
  • Ability to sit, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach as required.

Compensation:   

  • Based on experience. 

 

This position is classified as Exempt and is not eligible to receive overtime pay.
