ORGANIZATION: Guild Hall of East Hampton, Inc.
POSITION: Theater House Manager
REPORTS TO: Theater General Manager
STATUS: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
LOCATION: 158 Main Street, East Hampton, NY

POSITION SUMMARY:

The House Manager oversees front-of-house operations, ensuring a smooth, professional, and welcoming experience for all guests. The role reports to the Theater General Manager and works in partnership with the Visitor Experience Manager. The House Manager coordinates with technical, security, box office, coffee bar, and maintenance teams while managing ushers and addressing audience needs. The House Manager is also responsible for adhering to safety protocols, emergency response coordination, and maintaining the highest level of customer service.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the primary front-of-house liaison for all Guild Hall programs and rentals, ensuring smooth operations and timely show execution.
  • Coordinate with technical staff and box office to manage audience entry and seating to process audience arrivals swiftly. Take appropriate action when needed pre-show to expedite seating, including placing of signage to alert audiences.
  • Coordinate with Visitor Experience Manager and Philanthropy team on reserved seating/sections for general admission shows.
  • Supervise, train, and assign responsibilities to volunteer ushers, ensuring they are equipped with necessary supplies and understand their Front of House duties. Ensure ushers are at their stations through the program – pre, during, and post – and audience movement is well-managed.
  • In coordination with Security staff, oversee emergency procedures, serving as the main point of contact during incidents and ensuring ushers are trained in safety protocols, including evacuation routes.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the lobby and public areas during events, working with maintenance to address any issues.
  • Monitor and enforce theater policies, such as photography restrictions and audience conduct, including placing of signage to alert audiences and alerting Security staff of any problems with audience members that may need attention.
  • Facilitate and handle the audience Q&A sessions, ensuring proper microphone distribution and coordination with the technical team.
  • Manage the distribution and return of assisted listening devices and ensure ASL equipment is available and charged when needed.
  • Support ticketing and coffee bar operations as a backup staffer when required. Offer the assistance of ushers for same.
  • Following the given Production Summary, confirm showtimes, communicate delays, and expedite audience load-in to ensure timely performance starts.
  • Ensure ushers remain at their posts until the audience has exited, assisting with post-show cleanup and lost-and-found procedures. Seat ushers if there is available seating and if appropriate for the event.
  • Create and distribute post-show reports detailing attendance, issues, and operational notes.
  • Maintain CPR, TIPS, and Food Manager certification to comply with safety and service standards.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the overall theater experience.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

· High school diploma or equivalent (required)

· Bachelor’s degree in theater, arts administration, hospitality, or a related field preferred.

· Experience in customer service, event management, or theater operations preferred.

· Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a theater or hospitality setting preferred.

· Availability to work nights and weekends as needed.

COMPENSATION: $20 per hour
