Job Description

Kelly Government Solutions is a strategic supplier and business partner to the federal government and its key suppliers. Kelly Government Solutions offers scientists the opportunity to support basic and applied research projects designed to protect our military and nation from current and emerging biological threat agents. We are seeking Histotechnologist to provide laboratory support within Pathology Division the at a Department of Defense laboratory Department of Defense laboratory in Frederick, MD. Please note: this position is contingent upon contract award.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES

  • Perform tissue accessioning, and routine and special histological processing on submitted cases.
  • Ensure technicians meet all Institute training and laboratory biosafety requirements. Maintain training files as appropriate.
  • Accession submitted cases into the pathology database and perform database entry procedures utilizing computer hardware and software.
  • Perform routine and special histological procedures involving specimen trim-in, processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, and archival of completed case materials.
  • Operate and calibrate specialized equipment to ensure accurate, high-quality results to meet stringent clinical, research and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) requirements.
  • Evaluate, modify, or develop procedures to meet special requirements of research studies.
  • Advise and train investigators on methods and materials needed to ensure proper tissue handling and collection, and preservation of specimens for a wide variety of histological, immunohistochemical (IHC), and special molecular procedures and assays.
  • Perform required job-related training, to include GLP training, as necessary in accordance with Pathology Division policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate project support for the Molecular Pathology Department.
  • Independently assist in developing molecular pathology work plans and participate in budgeting forecasts.
  • Assist in training, scheduling, and ensuring compliance with biosafety and training requirements, while maintaining training files.
  • Coordinate and lead lab operations to ensure they are fully stocked and meet inspection requirements.
  • May be required to attend one scientific conference annually to obtain continuing education and to ensure cutting-edge knowledge and techniques are maintained.
  • Participate in manuscript development and preparation for publication of research as required.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum bachelors degree in Biology or related discipline.
  • HTL (ASCP) certified (Histotechnologist certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology) or minimum of 5-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in a range of molecular techniques, immunohistochemistry (IHC), confocal microscopy, in situ hybridization (ISH), histopathology, and immunofluorescent assays (IFA).
  • US citizenship, per contract guidelines.
