Job Description

620 Jones is part of the fabric of San Francisco. With over 15 years of business , 620 Jones has played a pivotal role in supporting arts, community, good times, fabulous cocktails and delicious food for the surrounding community and San Francisco at large.

We’re looking for an experienced General Manager to captain this San Francisco institution. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3-5 years managerial experience in the restaurant industry with a strong passion for the arts and entertainment.

The General Manager is the cornerstone of the Jones Team. You will be running the show with support from the Managing Partners, Executive Chef and our Beverage Director. We aim to create a one of a kind guest experience and you are directly responsible for that goal. Running the floor, creating a cool aesthetic, cash management, staff scheduling, training, instructing and evaluating staff, helping with facilities; all of these will be your responsibility and more. 620 Jones is open Tuesday-Sunday afternoons.

Roles and Responsibilities

Restaurant Management

  • Leads efforts to hire and train front of house servers 
  • Allocate resources as needed
  • Seamlessly combine back of the house efforts with front of the house staff to provide an amazing guest experience
  • Coaches staff—critiquing their work and recognizing great performance—during every shift
  • Ensure that restaurant is running smoothly, food quality is upheld, the appropriate aesthetics (“eat with your eyes first!”) are maintained and service level is on point.
  • Participate in the day-to-day planning of business. Drive execution towards costs and sales targets
  • Collaborate with Executive Chef and kitchen team to curate and refine menu offerings

Events

  • Supervise and coordinate all aspects of event production including, but not limited to marketing, a/v needs, additional staffing, menus, aesthetics, safety and finance
  • Assist in developing concepts and ideas for special entertainment events as well as identifying and working with partners/co-producers.

Service

  • Builds relationships with staff, vendors, and guests
  • Demonstrates effective salesmanship while on the floor. Teaches salesmanship to floor staff
  • Authorize service staff breaks

Organization and Aesthetics

  • Ensure that overall restaurant appearance is exceptional
  • Play an active role in creating ambiance
  • Monitor volume and content of music playing at all times
  • Actively pursue and foster an organized work place

Opening and Closing Procedures

  • Keep current opening and closing procedures
  • Ensure staff are trained on opening and closing procedures

Finance/ Cash Control

  • Manage inventory, ordering and vendor relationships to ensure efficient cost of goods management
  • Drive profitability by analyzing financial reports, managing budgets and controlling costs
  • Ensure re-set the banks and all tills at the end of the day accurately and thoroughly
  • Manage cash drops, deposits and change runs

Safety and Security

  • Supervise the operation of equipment (registers, equipment, seating, etc.)
  • Maintain the safety and sanitation program
  • Promote an atmosphere of safety.

Maintenance

  • Monitor maintenance of equipment. Troubleshoot as able or delegate to appropriate maintenance technician.
  • Assist in managing/troubleshooting the POS system and training users
