Job Description

JOB TITLE: Forklift/Scale Operator

REPORTS TO: Operations Manager

JOB TYPE: Full-time, Non-Exempt

LOCATION: Metalico Skyway (637 Tifft Street Buffalo NY, 14220) 

HOURS: Monday - Friday 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Saturdays as needed
COMPENSATION: $16-18/hr, based on experience & skills

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide quality customer service.
  • Greet and assist customers in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Work and interact with customers receiving materials at scale.
  • Computer experience – make the necessary transaction entries to capture specific metal purchased and weights.
  • Sort and process scrap metal according to grade and size.
  • Maintain a work area representative of a safe, organized, efficient, and clean environment.
  • Operates forklift or skid steer to unload/load customer vehicles and/or trucks. Also, utilize a forklift to dump containers. Move pallets/containers to the appropriate location.
  • Learn to identify/sort ferrous and nonferrous materials, light maintenance, and/or clean up.
  • Perform and complete all work assigned in a safe, efficient, and productive manner.
  • Assist with material inventory as necessary.
  • Transfer material from one container or area to another as required.
  • Cross-train in other tasks as needed. 
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions, and work independently. 
  • Must be able to work assigned schedule.
  • Must be able to perform a variety of tasks in all kinds of weather/seasons.
  • Communicate with managers, supervisors, co-workers, and customers clearly and respectfully.
  • Required to wear proper PPE (steel-toed boots, hard hats, safety glasses) 


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Able to operate bobcats, forklifts, and loaders is a plus.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for long periods of time.
  • Knowledge of the various ferrous and non-ferrous metals is a plus.
  • Quick learner who can follow directions.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Team player.
  • Organized, consistent, and good at multitasking.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation to work.
  • Prior to hiring- Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug test, and pre-employment screening.
