Job Description

Job Summary:

As a member of the Renewables Growth team, you will be responsible for participating as part of a team completing aspects of environmental planning as they relate specifically to UKA’s wind and solar development assets in the US.

The Environmental Planner we are looking for will enjoy the challenge of working on multiple projects on a fast-paced schedule, collaborating with other individuals on the Business Development Team to assess renewable sites across the US and supporting and leading tasks associated with various environmental and regulatory applications for new greenfield renewable projects in these jurisdictions.

Particular focus of the role will be to manage the various permit applications and approvals, due-diligence reviews, and environmental assessment and reporting including interaction with regulators, consultants and stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement permitting strategies for renewable energy projects
  • Prepare and submit permit applications to regulatory agencies
  • Assist in securing and sustaining compliance with all regulatory requirements associated with site environmental permits/approvals to construct and operate renewable projects in the US (e.g. wind, solar, battery storage).
  • Support and provide oversight of field research programs for biophysical baseline studies for birds, bats, wildlife, ecosystems, soils, and vegetation including analysis of results and production of technical reports.
  • Provide support and execute tasks regarding environmental and permitting risks related to renewable greenfield developments and/or acquisitions.
  • Proposed mitigation measures to minimize environmental effects
  • Support regulatory assessment and due diligence reviews of proposed mergers, acquisitions, or greenfield developments in relation to environmental/permitting aspects for projects across North America.
  • Provide advice and execute tasks regarding environmental and permitting risks related to renewable greenfield developments and/or acquisitions.
  • Monitor local and regional environmental initiatives relating to regulation and changes to regulatory requirements for new and existing wind assets.
  • Accountable to maintain strong relationships and information exchange with local, state and federal regulators to ensure UKA’s business plans are consistent with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of permits, correspondence, and regulatory submission.
  • Supporting multiple greenfield sites in the US, applicant must be willing to travel for work purposes as required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science in Biology, Environmental Sciences, or equivalent, with 5-10 years of environmental evaluation and permitting environmental experience.
  • Renewable energy permitting experience highly desired.
  • Knowledge of state and federal government regulatory requirements related to wind and solar development.
  • Experience in developing and conducting field programs as well as analyzing and presenting results of field studies and monitoring programs to regulators, environmental groups and stakeholders.
  • Must be organized and have the ability to manage and prioritize several projects at once.
  • Strong technical, communication, and organization skills.
  • Willingness to travel to work sites in locations across Canada. Travel may comprise up to 10% of your time.
